Indigenous Apprenticeships Program
A pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to start their career in the Australian Public Service (APS).
CareerTrackers links Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from year 12 and throughout university with employers related to their aspirations for paid, multi-year internships.
There are various support methods to help you with pursuing study after high school finishes including ABSTUDY and scholarships.
There are three types of scholarships offered under the Indigenous Students Success Program, they include:
Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships which assist with education costs for students enrolled and studying in enabling, undergraduate, honours or post-graduate awards (for example, compulsory text books, study equipment or laptops);
Indigenous Commonwealth Accommodation Costs Scholarships which assist with relocation and accommodation costs for students enrolled and studying in enabling, undergraduate, honours or post-graduate awards (for example removalists hire or bond payment, rent assistance); and
Indigenous Commonwealth Reward Scholarships acts like a prize for a person who has achieved exceptionally high standards (as determined by the university).

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander program
- If you identify as Aboriginal or as a Torres Strait Islander, an early entry can be achieved by indicating such on your application and attending an interview on campus
Indigenous Early Entry Scheme (Law)
- Offered by the University of Newcastle Law School
- Indigenous students can fill in an application including their two most recent report cards, letter of recommendation from the school and an expression of interest outlining why they want to study law
- If successful, students are guaranteed entry without HSC exam marks
